My wife has jumped in feet first into chip carving. I would like to get her a nice decorative handle, chip carving tool set. what would you recommend.
I have seen several, and steel quality is very important.
I am not familiar enough with the tools so I am looking for suggestions.
Her birthday is the 16th this month hopefully Ill have time to get them mail order...
Thanks:)

John,

I have been chip carving for several years, and I only use 1 knife. There is also a stab knife, but I have never used it. If you want to get her something nice, and assuming she does not already have one, get her a Wayne Barton Deluxe chip carving knife or a Ron Wells chip carving knife. A very nice tool for practicing is a "Stamp and Chip" kit. It stamps chip carving patterns onto a blank peice of wood. My final suggestion would be a t-square, a qualoty compass and some good, thin mechanical pencils.

thanks for the suggestions. as far as patterns go my wife uses t-shirt transfer pattern paper she finds a design she likes transfers it to the computer and prints it on the transfer paper then uses an iron to transfer the pattern to the wood
