Attention all pen turners of the Creek!!!

I want to organize The 2009 Pen Exchange here at “The Creek” so other Creeker’s can share their talents with one another. All I need is for you to do is “opt in” on this thread so I can keep a list of all the participants and on May 1st I will pick pairs from the list of participants. I will then post the pairs on this thread and it will be your responsibility to contact your partner to do the exchange.

Can I get a moderator to make this thread a sticky until May 1st so I can keep track of the list of people?

I hope this will be a successful 2009 Pen Exchange for all to enjoy.

Thanks,
Tom

I, "Super Turner", will grugdingly deign to participate in this primitive ritual, where I can dazzle the lucky sot who is fortunate enough to be paired with me with the superlative results of my talent, skill and craft.

All (as of this posting), 3 pens worth!

That's my long winded way of saying, "I'm in."

(if y'all have me after that opening.) :D

Tom, just give it a little time. I think last year it took a while to get going. I know for me, this is a busy time of year and it might be the same for others.

To paraphrase Ben's earlier post, I'll be more than happy to swap twice or make an additional one if you have an odd number. If you haven't participated in a swap before, it's pretty fun getting to know the other person better as well as to admire someone else's craftsmanship up close. I use my pen swap from here last year all the time.

What exactly is a pen exchange? Is it as simple as 2 turners sending each other a pen? I just fell into the vortex recently, so pardon my ignorance.:o

Exactly...you will be paired up with someone and then you exchange information and exchange pens...that easy.

How do you keep the exchange equitable so that someone who trades a $100 pen doesn't get a $10 pen in return? Or does everyone trade the cheapest, or least liked, pen they have?

Tom Henry

Once the you are paired with someone it is up to that pair on what is traded and how the transaction happens. It is the responsibility of that pair to communicate with one another.

We've got the same stuff as you have. It all comes from the same maker(s) who usually sit in Taiwan. Only difference is the kits are more expensive over here, cause our dealers buy in the US.

Please count me in too!

Thanks Scott

Mack Cameron
04-23-2009, 6:53 PM
I was in the last one, I'll be in this one. I would prefer not to be paired with Steve Kubien since I have to sit across from him at the breakfast table once a month if and when he shows up.:D

Also, if this matters or not, how about a circle swap rather than a straight swap. You don't know who's sending you a pen, and they don't know who's sending them a pen. If you decide to do it this way, it really doesn't matter how many sign up. A date should be specified for the mailing.
