I just got back from my wood guy, he had several logs and burls that he had no use for so he gave them to me. The first two pictures are Redwood burl slabs that I cut the one on the left is about 30" tall by 24" across and 5" thick the one on the right is slightly smaller, I got several more slabs and some chunks. The next two pictures are maple with some nice contrasting heartwood, their about 16" across and 4" to 6" thick and there are several pieces of this. The last picture is of todays haul, I have aleast 2 more loads like this still to get. I put my chainsaw in the picture for scale, it has a 25" bar on it.

Frank,
It's good to see you posting here. Boy am I green with envy. Do I see some madrone burl in the background of the last picture?

Send me a PM so we can catch up!

Take care,
Dick

Dick,
I haven't been doing much turning lately, but I'm starting to feel the need to start again. No Madrone on this load, but there are 2-3' burls that I'm going to get next weekend. I'll start posting pictures as I get some pieces done.

Frank, Even I am jealous of your haul of wood! The Redwood burl is something else!! It is hard to come by and here in WI non existent unless you have deep pockets! Have fun with your new found treasures and keep us updated on your projects!

Frank, when you say "wood guy" are you saying lumber or firewood?

There's a firewood "factory" around the corner from me. I see that he sets crotches and gnarly pieces aside, since they don't split well..I'm thinking that I need to introduce myself.:D

BTW, nice haul..

Steve,
You should introduce yourself, Thats how I meet this guy. He's a tree trimmmer/ firewood guy who also deals in burl, but the burls he's after need to weigh a least 1000lbs. I've also got wood from several other tree trimers in the area.

I have connections with tree guys at two colleges.
I will try to connect with this guy.
I found that a gift of something turned from their wood is appreciated, and keeps the flow of wood going.

Looks like the dust from that wood is probably poisonous (especialy the redwood burl). You should send it to me for proper disposal.
Really nice wood.

I'm going to have to do that and call up some local tree trimmers.
