David:
Beautiful finish and workmanship! I have been working some sycamore that is spalted and it does give it some color, but I like what you did with this.

David that is a beauty. Finish looks great and so does the form. Color looks fine to me.

David, That is a great HF and the finish is like glass! I like the center and pith oreintated that way, tough to do but a good look when completed.
It is a Bullseye to me! Dead on....

David - nice work! Nice form and outstanding finish! Color looks fine to me - but if you haven't tried dyes before - give them a shot. I like the way they can enhance the wood without hiding the grain.
Again - very nice work! Looking forward to seeing what you turn next!

I really like that David. The pith running through it like that really sets it apart from all the other HF's I've seen. The finish is dazzling too. :)

Why would there be a preference for Dye over Stain, or visa-versa?
Just wondering.
I've never used either..
Very cool though!!

Steve - a dye will actually change the color of the wood. A stain uses colored pigments to add color to a piece. Those pigments remain on the surface and - depending on how many coats - can cover/hide the grain.

10 X 9
Is that inches, millimeters, yards, furlongs, or leagues? :D
I guess it doesn't matter, it looks great anyway.

Ah, got it. I guess that's why I've never liked stains. Dyes look pretty interesting though.
Thanks for the info.

Great work! and good job (or luck) getting that pith to survive the drying/turning process!

Nice form David. Looks like you have the deft down to an art. I never would've thought deft to come out that glossy. You did a great job and I love the grain orientation. As said earlier. Perfect bullseye!

That's some really great wood, and a mirror finish. I think I can see your setup in the reflection.
