I have been on a cutting board kick lately so I have a couple of those to show......

the 2nd one is maple and purple heart.....the small squares are end grain so the finished a little dark........

the 4th one has a purple heart grid with maple and walnut end grain in the cutting surface. The purple heart grid is endgrain as well.......

The dimensions are all roughly 13" x 20".

The first two are 3/4" thick, the third is 1-1/2" and the last is 1-3/4" thick. I have sanded them to a glassy smooth 400 grit surface but everyone says that their too smooth for the owners to want to use them.

These have all been commissions and have been sold but I made two of each pattern when I made them so I still have a bunch of boards in my living room. Good thing I'm not married........they're scattered all over the living room leaning up against the walls. :D

I'm making a couple of chess boards next.....more pics later.

Thanks.

Very nice work, Mark.

I'll bet the glue ups were a bit tricky :p

They look to be 12" wide or so? Just under the width of your planer I'll bet :D

I really like the 4th one with the maple/walnut end grain.

Dan.

Hey Mark, I have to agree with Bob. No way should anyone cut on those! Maybe to be used as wall hangings, but I wouldn't let a knife come within 10 feet of them! Beautiful work!

What glue do you use for these? Do you just finish them with mineral oil?

They look great!

Thanks for all the kind words.....to answer a couple of your questions....

yes they are right at 13" wide to just fit in my DW 735.

I used Titebond II and yes they are just finished with mineral oil.......lots and lots of mineral oil.....lol

Tanks again for your encouragement.
