This is turned from a piece of wood that was marked 'fiddleback eucalyptus'. It's 7.5" tall, 6.5" diameter, and 2.25" thick. Turned and drilled for the glass tube on one axis and then turned sideways between centers for the rest of the turning. Then sanded off the nubs. I drilled it with a 1" bit for the first inch then 3/4" the rest of the depth so it would hold one of those 3/4" x 5" glass tubes. But it made it so the spout had to be too big. I think it would have looked better if the spout were smaller. The spout is walnut.
The first pic shows the glass tube in the spout, the second shows the prettier side of the wood.

Curt,

Thank you for the idea. I like the shape and technique. It's a cleaver way to make use of some nicely figured wood.

Curt - that sure is some amazing wood! Really like the form and color! This piece reminds me of a civil war era (CSA) canteen! Nice work!

Curt that is a really good idea. I'll have to try that one of these days. Nicely done, that is a nice piece of eucalyptus.

Curt, I have a large chunk of eucalyptus that I got from a SMC member in CA, Jarrod Mcgehee and I can't wait to get into it to see the tresures with in! I have always wanted to turn a little disc vase like that but so far it has not happened. Great job and pretty wood, it looks fine with the walnut spout!
