A month or so ago I dragged home a used General 490 Bandsaw. It is a 15 inch, 3/4 HP model. It cost about $560 US. A few of the old domestic (NA) Bandsaw lovers wanted to see some photos. Well I finally got around to it. It took many hours of polishing to restore the finish. It looked kinda nasty when I got it home. It is a subtle looker now if I do say so myself. The best part is how amazingly smooth the rear of the massive casting is. Very impressive machine. It works very well. I think all it needs is a link belt and a nice fence, and it will be set. The other two shots are of my Delta Metal/Wood bandsaw ( I like this one a lot) and an old Delta Scroll saw. (It is smooth like a Rolls Royce V-16). I paid about $275 and $150 respectively for this lovely old Iron. I suspect I will re-coup my money if I ever sell (not likely).

And if anybody in the Toronto area needs blades, I had some made up yesterday by a great service that makes them while you wait. Here is the machine they weld the bimetallic blades with. I bought 5 Swedish bandsaw blades for $40 USD (Two half inch, three 1/4 inch).

Hello Rod, I bought the blades at Tungsten Tool & Saw co. ( 122 Fenmar Drive, Weston, Ont) 416-745-6333 or 1-800-920-1769. The Owner (Rick) really seems to be keen about saw blades and the different permutations of cutting profiles, etc. Fun place to visit and the blades were made up very quickly. He has a lot of stock of all kinds. I saw some giant blades that must have been 10 feet in diameter ready to ship.
