I took on a down hill run that was more than me+my bike could handle. This is the result:

My left arm.

It will be 6-8 weeks before my lathe sees me again. :(

Greg:
I hope your recovery is fast and complete. You can always go out periodically and give the lathe a hug!;)

It took me till I was 42 years old but I learn that I should not to mix gravity and fun. Gravity and I have battled too many times and she always wins.

Heal and relax! Goat your freinds into collecting wood for you so you are ready to rock and roll when that cast comes off.

So sorry to hear about your accident. I know that's going to be a long 6-8 weeks, and you're going to dream about lathes and mountain bikes. Once your healed, don't stop doing either. I stopped biking after a couple falls, now I use it as an excuse.....

Bummer on the break Greg, but at least it's a clean one. It'll heal quick and well. I dislocated 7 bones in my right wrist when I was 6 years old... cast was on for 10 months.

Are you right or left handed?

Heal fast!

i stay in the splint until next wed to let the swelling subside. next wed they put me under general anesthesia and try to rest the bone. if that goes well then they will pin it from the outside and i'm in a cast for 6 weeks. if it doesn't go well then they will perform surgery and bolt the bone to a metal plate that will become permanent. cast for 2-3 weeks.

i'll find out which when i wake up.

Mike, I'm right handed and busted the left arm, thankfully.

Kendall, i like your idea. I'll talk to the surgeon about adding a loop to the top of the cast that i can use to guide the tools.:D

From one Gimp to another - welcome to the club:D
I had hip replacement surgery 2 weeks ago after a spill on the driveway so I can feel where you're coming from. Hang in there and dont push it.

now with a cast you can hold the toolbit in yourhand and put your arm on the toolrest! you should see if there is a way to turn the cast when it is over

dr dumbass and his "let's let the swelling go down"... the nice sharp bone had, miraculously, worked its way into the muscle over the last week so they couldn't do the external manipulation and had to open it up. then, are you ready for this, i'm special and they didn't have the right plate so they had to send out for parts while i was under. scheduled for 1.5 hours, actually took 4.

but all good now. i'm in a splint to "let the swelling go down" then they will put me in a cast next week. cast should be gone in a couple three weeks.

Dude. That sucks! Do you want us to come and kick his %$&?. And to think of the money he is getting paid. My wife went through the exact same thing back last December. Then the only thing they say is - Sorry about that. And then no discount on the bill either. Good luck. Hopefully you can start healing correctly now.
