I recall a thread were someone had linked to a 3/4" plunge bit to bore bench dog holes. Does anyone know who the vendor was? I think it was around $20.

James,
I don't recall that specific thread, but I got some 3/4" spiral two-flute upcut end mills with 1/2" shanks from Eckstrom-Carlson some years back; they were excellent for plunge applications. The E-C small tools division was bought by ToolMasters about a decade ago, I think.

Failing that, any industrial supply house can probably get you what you need.
I'm not sure exactly how you plan to go about making your dog holes, but have you considered using a sawtooth drill bit?
