View Full Version : Grizzly G1018 or Powermatic 60

Guys,

I have a line on a couple of 8" jointers. One is a newer grizzly G1018 on a mobile base for about $350, then there is a middle 80's mustard powermatic 60 for about $450, and also a middle 80's DJ-20 for about $550. What do you think about the jointers. I have a 6" that serves me just fine. But for the price of these I could upgrade after selling my for little to nothing. All are in excellent condtion, no rust, and single phase. Sorry, but don't ask were they are I am not letting the cat out of the bag until I decide what works for me. After I choose they are fair game.

On the DJ-20 how easily does the table come off the base. I would need to do that to transport it?

I imagin on the powermatics and the grizzly 4 bolt hold the table to the base and thats it, am I correct?

I had the old Powermatic 50, and 4 bolts held it to the base. But even then be prepared, because there is a lot of cast iron in the beds so it will be heavy. If you can afford to, try to look at all 3 and see which one you like the best - some people like handwheels v levers on the infeed and outfeed, and see how the fence slides back and forth ( I never tilted mine, but it is good to regularly move it back and forth to spread the wear out over the knives.)

I know where they are but I'll keep quite! Just don't go after their AEM wide belt sander!

PM me which one you are interested in as I may go for the other, or the Delta for my uncle. I'm a bit tight on cash after a huge deal on a saw earlier this week that I am still working on trying to find a shipping method for--so you might not have to worry about me at all.
