I'm new to wood turning, but I have a great teacher. He's been my close friend for over 15 years and I thought I'd share with you guys some of his art work.

He likes making checkerboard bowls. :D

He will take two wood species that greatly contrasts, then make a checkerboard block and then turn that into a bowl or cup.

His favorite and trademark combination is ebony and holly.

Though he also likes bloodwood, mahogany, and maple.

Anyways, I'll let the pictures do the talking. Maybe this will be inspiration for some people.

Chris, Your friend is very good at his checkerboard turnings and the table too! Just another thing to give a try some day! The list grows and grows!

Thanks,

Nice bowl design.
It reminds me of my first bowls using the stacked lamination technique.

I am impressed with how centered you got it. I have not been that successful with centering laminates.

Yeah what Dewey said, I have a fit trying to get everything lined up. Looks like he nailed it though, fine work!!
