Anyone have a recommendation on a Dye that would be safe for a child's toy? I just helped my brother mill up a bunch of wood and he is going to start on building a train from a scroll saw pattern I bought him for xmas. He would like to dye parts of it bright colors. I started looking around today and it seems like none of the dyes I can find say they are safe. I talked with Homestead finishing and they said both of their types of dyes are not recommended for children toys. Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

RIT fabric dye. MSDS:http://www.ritdye.com/images/pages/Powder%20Dye_16%20Sections.doc
Top coated with shellac, also non toxic and safe to eat.

I've heard of some folks using food coloring in a pinch.

It's the right time of year too- I've heard of using Easter egg coloring to dye wood. Don't know how colorfast it would be.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I placed an order with RIT and hopefully will have the dyes in a few days. Thanks!
