I'm making some cabinets for the den. I plan to use pocket screws to assemble the face frames and to attach the face frames to the plywood carcase. it is necessary to use glue in addition to the screws?

Thanks,
Scott

Kreg says it's not, but I find glue to be cheap insurance.

However, when I glue a pscrew joint, I only run a thin bead down the center of the joint. This saves having to clean up squeezeout.

Truth be told, in face frames, the endgrain connections ain't gonna benefit that much from glue anyway...

I do, depending on the application. It's a tight joint to begin with and probably squeezes all the glue out anyway, but it can't hurt. You wouldn't need much.

Scott, I will occasionally use glue in a tongue and groove or butt joinery with pocket hole and screws if the project will get heavy use or will be moved around alot, like a kids table and chairs.

Once a face frame is solidly attached to a cabinet, its life is pretty easy. I agree with the other guys.

Thanks for the replys guys. What about when attaching the face frame to the cabinet with pocket screws, use glue too?

Thanks,
Scott

Maybe just my anal retentive persona, but I just GOTTA use some glue. Just makes me feel better.

Yes on the glue between the face frame and the cabinet.

I usuallt use pocket screws to assemble the face frame and biscuits to attach it to the carcass. It helps align the FF to the cabinet and I feel that it is stronger than just glue.

Yes and yes on the glue.

Face frame, it helps fill the tiny gaps, and keeps the parts from twisting out of place when you move the face frame around.

Glue to the carcass. Yes. Helps to strengthen everything up.

I do. Having said that I do have a worktable that I have beat on for years. The frame around the top is PH, no glue, no problems but, that's a worktable not furniture.
