Veneer moisture content

I been thinking about resawing some maple and walnut into veneer and wondered about how I should take into account the moisture content of the wood. This is all air dried wood and I wonder if I should dry it down to 6% before resawing. I understand that commercial veneers are made from wet wood. I would think that the lower the moisture before resawing would mean less chance of splits appearing later. Any Ideas?
