This probably doesn't belong in the turning forum, it comes as close to f***work as I get. But this is a turning display shelf, rack, whatever you want to call it, that I made from an old toboggan I had as a kid. It's been stored in my folks garage for about 40 years until I saw a similar one made from simulated wood grained particle board in a Chinese sweat shop at a local furniture store. I decided to get mine down from the rafters, clean off 40 years of dust, and build a rack to hold some of my stuff.

This first pic is the empty shelf.......

Then my wife loaded it up with some of my tunings.....

It's not the kind of thing everyone would want in their house. But my wife has our house decorated with a lot of antiques and old family heirlooms (junk) so it fits in pretty well.

I think it's pretty cool. The fact that it's an heirloom make it even better.

All you need to do now is turn some snowmen for your toboggan. Your wife has good taste. I have a window sill about 3/4 full. Soon I will need to come up with more storage.

Curt - what a novel way to display your turnings! Pretty cool that it has a family history! Glad to see you rescue the old toboggan and be able to put it back to use!

Curt, I think that is the best shelf I have seen in a long time! The history and memories that go with it are priceless! I never had a toboggan as a kid just some old wood skis with a board nailed to it for my sled! It still was fun! Thanks for sharing and you have rekindled some of my greatest childhood memories!

Perfect display! Nice turnings too!!

Great idea Curt. My only question is - can it be turned back into a toboggan if the occasion calls for it?

Curt, it looks great and so do those turnings. I think the word you should use is "eclectic", thats what we use to decribe our furnishings and we are still together after 41 years!

Curt , I left out the "s" in describe, I spell about the same way I turn, hit or miss. Again, thats a great use of an old toboggan.

Curt, way cool! I love it! Very nicely done both the display idea of the toboggan, and of course, your turnings as well! Cool! Ha, I've not seen (nor been on) a toboggan since I was a kid. That is really nice. Jude
