This may not be the right forum to be asking this, but I'll give it a shot. I'm looking for an economical (cheap), user friendly (easy) program that will optimize sheet goods as well as linear stock. I did some research on this a while back and came up with several programs. I think a program of this type would help me better estimate materials needed and the cost for projects before presenting them to clients. It would also cut down on the time taken up doing this myself. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, all!

Ditto what Lloyd said. Saved me a bundle on my kitchen project, too. I generally don't use it for solid stock, but it's capable of handling it.

Jerry -

CUTLIST is a good choice. You can purchase various levels of capabilities i.e number of pieces. There is even a demo version, but it limits the number of pieces you can enter.

If you download it, burn it to a CD in case your hard drive goes Tango Uniform.

What they said--cutlist plus, or for a little more you may want to consider easycab.

Here is another option for optimizing software. I've been using a version of this program for years and it has worked very well. It even allows you to enter leftovers from previous jobs and can sometimes save you if you goof during cutting or want to change pieces to take advantage of color or grain match.

Here is a link: Sheet Layout (http://www.sheetlayout.com/)

It is availabe as a limited trial and then at various levels depending on your needs.
