New development puts my bread on the table, so it came as no surprise to find myself on the "we'll call you when things pick back up" roster--on Friday the 13th of all days. This is my therapy box--a little too big for my photo tent. Zebra wood, wenge and bloodwood with a suede cloth liner and a sliding bloodwood tray. About 8" wide x16" long x 6" high. Two coats of Waterlox and some Renaissance wax. LMOL immediately claimed it for her 'bling' (little does she know I'm gonna hock it to buy that new J/P I've had my eye on). OOps...she just looked over my shoulder and suggested the box was just the right size to hold my ashes :D:D:D

Really nice, Ted. The tray looks to be "captured" in the box - wider at the bottom. Did you finish the interior pieces first in order to accomplish that, or put the tray in from the bottom before enclosing? Either way, makes for an intriguing design.

I don't use exotics, or do boxes much for that matter, but you box builders do some great work! The designs are always so fresh, and the woods so complimentary of the design.

Good work! And, good luck on the employment front...

I don't know when I've seen a more beautiful box. That surpasses anything I've seen at the snobby art shows.

Good luck!.

Thank you all for the compliments and encouragement. I always look at shop time as theraputic and when a piece is fun to create and looks good when it's done there's a double payoff.

John..good eye. The sliding tray is semi-captive. It rides on rails set in a kerf on each of the long sides. One of the rails is glued in place and the other is a snug press fit so it can be removed to allow the tray to tip down and be lifted out. I wanted the tray removable and the rails were the simplest solution.

Very unique looking design on this Ted. Hope things look up for you on the employment scene. Don't start having too much fun to the point you don't go looking for employment. :)

Sarge..

Wow, if that is what you make when you're feeling blue, what can you do when you're happy? Amazing box, Ted. :)
