Hello again.

I have another question concerning my lathe (http://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=106845). How do I figure RPMs for it? Is there a way to do it?

you can buy a mechanical tach, or an electronic one. Electronic versions are as low as $30 on Ebay. Put a piece of reflective tape on the handwheel, turn on the lathe, aim the tach at the spinning tape, and you get a digital readout.

If you know the rpm of the motor, you can calculate the spindle speed by measuring the diameter of the steps in the wheels and doing a bit of math. (Drive pulley diameter x motor rpm)/driven pulley = output rpm.

Matt, The rpms are not really a big deal. Most of the lathes in the world before LED redouts are still working fine and the turner turns where he or she is comfortable. I might turn something at about 1200 rpm and you might like it at 900rpm. I have 2 lathes without a readout and the PM3520b with it and I never look at the readout. Just my opinion.
