After all of the good comments I decided on the Jet 1220VS and also purchased the 28" bed extension which gives me 48" between centers. I am not much of a turner but on occasion I need to turn a leg or some other detail of a piece that I am building. I felt this would fit my needs and at the same time not take up too much floor space when not in use. I built the stand with a drop leaf to accommodate the extension and plenty of storage for all the lathe tools and accessories. The stand sits on leveling casters and stores neatly behind the joiner/planner when not in use.

yes Burt and Curtis are right about how nice it is. I like the stand you built also. Nice work now let's see the pieces you'll be turning on that puppy

now that you have made that, you can get rid of your other tools, no use once you have a lathe, except for the bandsaw and dust collection
