Hey James,
Not sure how good it is. Mine has 3 inserts and was around $250.00+-. Depends on how often you plan on using it. if rarely it might be OK if frequent you may even want to go for the 4" if yours allows for it. I had to stay with a 1.98" one so that I have the same one for both CNC's. The twin head one needs 2 of anything but it surfaces twice as fast :D.Talk to your CNC rep and see what they suggest as maximum width and if you will benefit going from a 2 insert to a 3 or 4 insert bit.

So what else are you doing now?

Hi James,

Not an expert on these but at 2-1/2" diameter and only two inserts I would suggest deep cuts and high feeds would lead to poor finish or worse, chatter. It would be fine for clean up work though. I always opt for an odd number or 3+ inserts on any cutter over 1" diameter.

what odes it matter how many cutters it has? I have the amana 2.5" and two cutters are fine. I can surface my spoilboard at 12ips 1/4" cut. with these you don't want high rpms or the dust really flies I run it when cutting mdf at 8000.

Centurian has recently added 1/16" diameter ballnose bits (http://www.centuriontools.com/router_bits_toolcase/centurion_tools_showcase.html?page=full&cart=123765820922194258&__max=6&--eqskudatarq=116US2.18752.5BNRES14&id1=374&id2=735) to their product line at $22.00.

I couldn't find a link to their spoilboard cutter, it must be new and hasn't made it to their web site yet.

Hi Steve,

A balanced cut. Ever try to enlarge a small hole in sheet metal using a larger 2-flute drill? You finish up with a roughly triangular hole. Use a 3-flute drill and it is round.

I am not suggesting you cannot use them, just that you will get a better finish at higher feed loads with a 3+ insert cutter, preferably always an odd number of inserts.
