About a month ago I was talking to a good friend of mine that is a professional harmonica player. He had bought 4 speakers and wanted to build a cabinet so he could connect it to his amp on stage. I have 5 guitars of my own so this project started to interest me. He sent me a picture of what he would love to have but would be too pricey when on a budget....so I said "I will build you a cabinet for those vintage speakers." Being on a budget he asked me to build him a cabinet out of pine so he could mount 4 x 10" speakers that came out of an old Leslie cabinet. These are not the typical speakers you would use for a secondary cabinet but heck...he is the pro.

Knowing what little I know about wood I just could not bring myself to use pine. Keep in mind he does this for a living and pine would not stand up going gig to gig and I did not want to deal with tear out on the joints. I have not presented this to him yet but I hope he likes my modification.

That looks sweet. Nice Dobe too. Does your buddy use a green hornet mic? That and those speakers oughta really growl.

Very nice work Rick.

Aren't you concerned about cabinet resonances using solid wood?

He uses a JT30 Bullit mic with a chrystal element. He is into the vintage sound so it should sound good.

One of the reasons I went with canary wood is because it is used to build speaker cabinets so it should have good acoustics.

Amp cabinets do add to tone. His should be just fine. the cabinets are usually plywood or pine. Canary wood is harder, and those speakers are not real high powered ones.

Beautiful. I love the dovetails & the finish.

If you really want it to hold up, you might consider putting on some of those metal corners.

Thanks for the feedback.

I suggested the metal corners but he wanted to keep the cabinet as is. It will be interesting to see how it holds up.
