A friend was cleaning up his father's workshop and offered me a lathe. It hasn't been used in 20 years and was plenty dirty. A machinist friend and I slowly got everything moving. Another friend loaned me a motor which I set up today and turned my first piece, at 10" piece of oak. Before I tried it, I wasn't sure I was going to keep it but now that I have tried it, I'm afraid I like it!!
Looks like you can turn a piece 24 inches long, and can be about 8 inches wide. I couldn't find any kind of manufacturer's name but it is a machine made for working steel as it has the whatjamacallit that moves the carriage back and forth. If I get a chance, I will take a pix to see if any of you knows what kind it is.
