if the brake engages and wrecks the blade. other than the cost of a new blade, what does it cost to get the saw back to operational status? how difficult is it to get it going again.

You need a new blade and brake cartridge, and it takes about 30 seconds to swap them out.

If you send in your fired our tripped cartridge, sawstop will send you a free one. They are examining the ones that come in to see what see them off to make the system better.

Sawstop will only replace them if you cant figure out why they went off. I just went through this with them. I work in a shop with two sawstops. They have been set off 5 times now (only once for a finger). The other times cutting either plastic or metal set them off, and once for no apparant reason at all. FWIW, firing the brake does not always ruin the blade, we have only had to discard one because of this, and replace a couple of teeth on a dado set.

What kind of plastic set off your saw Barry? I cut whole sheets of acrylic with 0 issue. Plastic should not set it off.

I talked with SS about using blades that have fired. They confirmed that you can do it... They recommend sending them back to the manufacturer to get them sharpened and inspected before reusing though...

They say forrest does this quite frequently.
