I am looking at a Ridgid JP0610 and Grizzly 14" G0555 with raiser kit. The seller states they are both bought in 2008 and in excellent condition. What would be a OK,good, great, and gloat price for them together.

He is asking $550 but I need to drive an hour to pick it up and another hour back. I'm thinking of countering his offer.

Well I'd say it is a good deal since the Ridgid is $399.00 new and the Grizzly is $435.00 new. That is a total savings of $184.00 and they are only about 1 year old. You get a lovely drive over and back you can take the wife and make it a lunch date to boot.

Lunch with my wife???Are you kidding me? My wife will kill me if she finds out I am going to get a new bandsaw and jointer. If I do pick it up, I'm going to have to hide it under the couch or something...

I have always felt a good price for used tools is about half of the current street price. Based on the numbers in Gary's post, the street price is $836 (maybe plus shipping???). I'd say a good price would be about $425. Anything under that would be great or gloat. Used is used - it seldom matters how used or how little used.

Around here 6" jointers go for $200 and 14" BS for about $300. So no, it doesn't seem like a great price. Unless there are not many used tools in Nebraska (or whereever it is that you are; don't know why I thought nebraska...); then it might be okay.

Well, used tool pickings are pretty thin on my end of the state, but I would still stick to the half price rule.

Here's my calculations if bought new:

The jointer: $400 to $425, depending on where you buy it.
The BS from Grizzly including riser block and shipping is $579. So, that's a range of $979-$1,004. Let's call it a $1000 bucks even.

IMHO, $550 is a great price if these tools are indeed in great condition. If the guy will take $500, even better. If not, $550 is close enough to half price to jump on it, if they are in nearly new condition, bought new in 2008.

So here is what I picked up.

-Grizzly G0555
-Riser kit
-Heavy duty Shopfox mobile base for the bandsaw
-3 blades to use when riser block is not on and 1 blade that is long enogh to use with riser. So total 4. However 2 of them had small rust. All Grizzly I think.
-Ridgid Jointer with Freud blades.
-Push pads x2
-Five Roller stand which Woodcraft lists for $84.99
-Can ok 1 calorie Coke.

I paid $450. Is this getting closer to great deal?

The guy was extremly nice and moving out of the State.
I don't know much about what to look for in terms of overall condition. However they looked like they were in good shape and I had the guy operate both of the machine.

So how did I honestly do?

I think the mobile base, riser block and roller stand made it a very good deal. The short blades won't do you any good - you won't be changing out the riser block. Congratulations and enjoy. BTW where are the pics?

Ya did very well. Now we wanna see the pics! Oh yeah, Mark is correct about the riser block. Once it's on there, you won't be taking it off anymore. There are lots of sources for the longer blades. Ask on the forum for suggestions about what type of blades to get for your new saw.

You got a deal dude! Now start making sawdust and wood chips.

It's still in the truck...and the truck is parked backwards with the rear into the parking spot so that it's visibility is minimum. This is also why I can't post pix... for now that is.

Sneak them into the garage.. throw some dust on them.. They will become invisible..

This is a proven technique..

Oh man I didn't even know that Re-saw fence wasn't part of the riser kit. Ok so the re-saw fence was included to...I think Grizzly H7584.
