Someone gave me a new Cen-tech moisture meter today, I think its a HF special, but it shows no lights even in some stuff I just got from the lumbeyard that feels and looks wet.

Is it a piece of junk? I have tried it on several different pieces and no lights.

Thanks

Harry - I think that is the meter I use to have. If I remember, you have to put both contact pins on a piece of metal and push the button at the same time and hold it for a few seconds. That resets the meter. You have to push the pins into the wood pretty deep to get a reading. The one I had worked alright but I lost it.

Harry, many years ago I bought a MiniLignomat because of cost that malfuntioned and cost me a few thousand dollars on a flooring job I had to replace gratis.

I smashed it and bought a Delmhorst, and have that checked every so often, and that is what I should have done in the first place.

My own opinion is smash it!

I am with Larry, the HF will drive you crazy.
I bought a Mini Lignomat from eBay and have not regretted using a real tool.

For my kiln drying business I use Merlin and Delmhorst meters; both are excellent devices.

I have heard many negative comments re the HF units from their "former" owners.
