Here is a Vase I turned out of the other end of the burl I did my bag of sand HF from. It has two coats of Danish oil. I'm not sure if I will put lacquer over it or just a coat of wax. It is a touch of 9" tall by 5" in dia. I turned this one like the rest of my HF's, with a John Jordan Hook Tool and his arm brace. I'm not sure why the first picture show up so large. I took them at the same time and sized them the same.

Jack - beautiful wood and form! Love that burl! Great looking finish as is! Maybe wax over it as additional protection but don't think I would do much more than that! Interesting foot! Did you do a slight recess? I like the way it comes across as balanced! Nice work!

On your photos - one is at 800x600 pixels, the other is at 600x450.

Jack,

You did the wood justice. I really like the wood. IMO a little wax would look better than lacquer, I like the soft look to it.

SU...WEET, my friend.
What is the bottom dimension?
Is it standing on its own?

Very nice indeed! How stable is it with such a small foot?

Thanks for the compliments everyone. The bottom is 1 1/2" in dia. The picture and the curve of the sides make it blend in to look like it is smaller than it really is. The bottom is concave about 1/8". I will take everyone's advice and apply wax to it for the finish.
Thanks again,
Jack

Very nice piece Jack. Love the way the foot kind of disappears at the bottom. Great flow to it as well.

Definitley a winner. Some of the forms on these are akward, but this one is point-on- really nice flow.

Wow that's a nice piece of work and wood, exceptional, as someone said if you can paint the piece black it should still look good, well this one would surely pass that test Jack, and so much better looking with that precious wood, thanks for showing it :D :D

Thanks again everyone. It sits well on the foot, but it could tip over easier than most of my bowls. I would tend to put it on the back of a shelf not on the front edge if you know what I mean.
Thanks,
Jack

Jack, It looks like a greek "Amphora Jug" very nice traditional style. THe cherry burl is always a winner and yours has very tight grain. The tippy part always gets me too, I try to leave some mass in the bottom but sometimes forget. Maybe a hunk of lead nest time!!! HA HA!! Or a magnet and put it on a metal shelf....... I am always thinking.
