Hi All,

Mike Null mentioned he bevels name tags. I have searched and cannot find a bevel machine, so how is it done?

I looked on the JDS site but could not find a listing for equipment.

Thanks for any morsels here.

Dave,

I started a post on 2/10/09 (not sure how to post the link to it) about beveling and there were alot of good suggestions. Dee recommended this Lee Valley tool: Veritas® Mk.II Power Sharpening System and I think Scott mentioned an after market dremel tool.

Thanks Steve, I will chase it down. Not sure how I missed it.

Dave,
Gravograph make 3 bevelers. http://www.gravograph.com/usa/Engraving%20Machines/auxiliary-machineries.php

Or, find an old pantograph. Makes a great beveler and profiler.

Thanks, I have an old Swift (I think) pantograph here. I'll see what I can make it do.

I just got a model 200 Dremel tool with a Dremel shaper/router table and it works great for the little amount of tags I do. If I had larger volume I'd want something more complex, but this little gizmo works fine for the $75.00 I invested.

Hi Tom,

What kind of cutter do you use?

I have a Dremel and can easily throw together a beveling holder for it.

A Dremel, pipe strap, and scrap block of wood cut at a 45 degree angle would make a quick DIY beveler.

On Ebay there are bevelers available all of the time. A couple of days ago there were as many as three up for auction. Do a search under the "Business & Industrial" for New Hermes Beveler.

Hi Tom,

What kind of cutter do you use?

I have a Dremel and can easily throw together a beveling holder for it.

I use a standard 45 deg. rotary/cone/file/rasp/whatever end.. The only thing I had to do to the dremel table was put a strip of 1/4" aluminum across the face with a cutout just large enough for the tip of the cutter so the end of a piece does not go 'bump' into the space and tack out a chunk. Then doing badges, I use it to bevel the sides of a 3" wide x 12" long strip (leave the plastic on, and run it face down across the bit) then shear it into the 1" or 1 1/4" plates as needed, I then just run the sheared edges across the bit (leave the plastic on the protect the face) then laser the badges one at a time .. I only use this method if I doing a few badges.. If I'm running a bunch I do them by the sheet, w/rounded or sq corners.. I do not get a lot of call for beveled edges any more, but round corners, and special shapes are still popular..
