Just wanted to show everyone what my son Max finished turned today after school. This is his first segmented piece and is made from German Beech and Black Walnut. I helped out by cutting the parts to length and sanding the walnut ring flat, he took it from there. At 12 years old, his turning ability is amazing.(I know that may seem a little biased, but wouldn't you be) He only used a bowl gouge and sand paper on this one, then finished it off with Johnson's paste wax. He is planning on taking it to the turning club meeting tomorrow night. Everyone there looks forward to seeing his work:) The pictures are not as clear as I would like , but I didn't have a lot of setup time tonight.......Tony

Sweet....do you think he would give lessons to a 60 something year old turner? I'd be gloating over him also...Bill...

Be sure to let Max know that everyone really liked his bowl! Really nice work! Wouldn't be surprised if they ask him to start doing demos for the club! Just think what he will be able to turn in a few more years! Tell him to keep up the good work!

A proud dad indeed!

Come back and update the thread once you get some feedback from the AAW meeting. I am sure they will love it.

We went to the monthly club meeting this evening and took the bowl that Max turned for show&tell, it really impressed everyone there:D, including our guest instructor Mark Sillay. As a side note, let me just say that Mark went beyond expectations with his 3 and 3/4 hour demonstration. Afterward, he actually invited Max and I to pack our favorite tools and come spend the day with him at his Atlanta shop for free turning instructions. That is something that we definitely plan to do. It was a great evening.......Tony

Tell your son well done. I think it's great when our younger generations take an interest in something other than video games.
This is a project he should be proud of. I'm sure we would all like to see his next projects.
