I'm finishing a walnut coffee table.
It'll be dyed rust/brown, followed by BLO, shellac, finally Target USL.

Do y'all usually fill yr grain on walnut?
Do you think the BLO is necessary to 'pop' the grain?

If not, I can omit the BLO shellac phase...

I'd like it to be warm, dark, rich, and clear.

Is that asking too much???

Use better Oil BLO takes too long to dry....

I use oils that have drying agents there are many out there. The next step depends on your top coat. If you plan to use a water base like Target USL you will need to seal with shellac. However if you going with a Nitro lacquer you can skip the shellac.

Personally I like Light Walnut danish oil top coated with 5 to 8 coats of Nitro lacquer then rubbed you a very high semi gloss.

Looks sweet.
