This is the simplest woodturning I've done since pen turning but after getting the faceplate stuck for several days it became a major pain. Thought I'd try an ikebana after seeing them sell at a local art show faster than any other type of woodturning. Don't know what type of wood it is. It had a crack so it had to be turned down from 10" to 7". It's a bit odd, but a simple thing like this really impresses the women.

Nice form. The grain patter is cool. You can see the closest part to the camera is lighter, makes it really standout.

Nice arrangements. The Japanese arts have the best sense of line and form. It's one of the things that makes woodturning so appealing. Simple but elegant shapes and line.

Couple of questions. Is the turning a hollow form or is there just a hole to insert the center piece into. Is the center piece the florists foam they use to stick stems into or are there special Ikebana centers ?

Thanks to all for the comments.

Roger, I originally intended to hollow it then decided against it so it would handle a tall arrangement without tipping over. The center is called a "flower arranger" and was ordered from Craft Supplies. A forstner bit made it easy to install.
