i got a motor from a tread mill. i have the motor and the speed control circut board, that made the speed control possible.

but i didnt get the upper control unit, the part that gives the circut board input.

i found this site where a person did the same thing i am trying to do.

http://www.thewarfields.com/cnccookb...theDCMotor.htm (http://www.thewarfields.com/cnccookbook/MTLatheDCMotor.htm)

but i need a bigger DC speed controller

the motor i have is 21.4 amps, 2.65 PEAK HP , 1.5 cont. duty @95v DC

i found some controlers online, but they were either for more than 100 hp, to be able to handle the amps, or they were 3 hp but only 2 amps. and both were over 100 dollars. can some one point me in the right direction?

You could search local CL for broken treadmills, maybe one with a burnt out motor, and use it's upper control unit. as long as parts match up and whatnot. I got a 'broken' treadmill from CL in my area for free, got it home, plugged it in and it didn't work. flipped the breaker on the treadmill's power supply and tried again...it worked!

I'm not entirely sure if mixing and matching will work, but it is entirely possible to find a complete set of motor and controls on CL for likely cheaper than the $100+ you quoted.
