I am making a project out of oak wood, my question is do you have to use a conditioner on the wood before staining and will oak take stain OK.:rolleyes:

Most folks do not use a conditioner when using a pigment stain with oak. It takes stain just fine due to the open pore structure oak has.

As always, TEST ON SCRAP of the same material your project is made from to insure you like the result, including at least one application of your top coat as that will change the color slightly, too.

Thanks Jim, My next question is will oak take any color of stain?
