I have always wanted a chip clearance system for my morticer, and I finally got aroungd to it today.
I drilled a small hole in the collar that holds the chisel so that the smallest brake line could fit through it. I drilled a second hole in the cast iron behind the chuck, this hole larger than the one in the collar so that the bends in the brake line could slip through it. I then massaged a piece of brake line so that it goes through the hole in the side, clears the chuck and down through the hole in the collar. I connected the brake line to a piece of flex, and then down to a cobbled up foot switch that I threw together out of an old blow gun.
It works awesome! As I work I just give it a tap with my foot to clear the chips and never have to slow down to blow chips out of the way, and I can always see my lines.
Cost me nothing.
