Hey folks.
I'm going to be in the Richmond area, actually Mineral, for the next month, and am looking for things to see and do on my days off. ( I'll be working at the North Anna Nuclear Power Station).
It doesn't have to be wood related, (but if someone knows of a a good source for domestic hardwoods I'd like to check it out) anything is an option.
This is my 3rd time to the area and each time I enjoy it more and more. It sure is pretty here right now.

Woodcraft at Willow Lawn Shopping Center at Broad at Staples Mill (about a block from that major intersection). It's 40 minutes from Mineral. Might be some more wood stuff around, but I'm not aware of anything (I'm not a woodworker, so I'm not sure).

Mike,

I worked the orginial construction project at North Anna Units 1 and 2.

In Richmond go to Pleasants Hardware on Broad Street, its a very large hardware store and worth the visit.

In Fredricksburg which is closer than Richmond (Route 208) there used to be Fredricksburg Hardware, 25 years ago it was an amazing store and was the oldest hardware store I had ever seen. FH was like going back to the Colonial days man they had some very interesting stuff hanging on the walls :)

There are lumber mills everywhere, Louisa County is the hardwood pallet capital of the world. I would guess that the mills I used to visit are most likely out of business or have moved in 25 years so get your hands on a local phone book. In Mineral you should visit Centurion Tools, they make router bits and their shop is right in town. Tell Fred you are a Member of SawMill Creek and ask for the grand tour.

Visit Thomas Jefferson's home if you want see some very cool stuff. Check out the web site first.

Ed Lang lives very close, near the west side of Louisa County, contact him via Private Message here and see if he would be willing to show you his ShopBot and Laser Engraver and some of the things he has been doing lately.

Worth a trip if you're in the city - they're right across the street from the Diamond.

A neat old Mom and Pop-style hardware store. Also Jet/Powermatic resellers.

Are you coming down from Millstone? I'm D, also... ;)

Thanks everyone. That gives me some places to start.

I'll be sure to check out Fred in Mineral. There are still a bunch of pallet plants here. I passed a pretty big one on 522 when I went to Richmond this morning.

Yep, came down from Millstone.
We started sharing resources a few years back, and it's worked out great for both sides.
We probably have about 30 guys down here from Millstone, all Dominion employees. Most bring all of their fishing gear and hook up on Lake Anna, and rent a lake house. When we do Surrey trips they book charters out on the Cheasapeke Bay.
When the guys come up to Millstone from North Anna and Surrey, they hit Boston and NY City, and of course the two Indian Casino's.

If you're down for the outage. I'm working days in the I&C shop.
