Well here is the second lidded finial box I made. It is cherry with walnut base and finial. I like this one better. I still have some designs in mind. It is 8 3/4" tall and 3" at the widest. It has a couple of coats of shellac 1 lb cut put on while on the lathe and then 3 coats of lacquer. I like the base better on this one.

Bernie,

Very nice, I like the proportions, the form and the finish. Well done!

Nice work Bernie! When comparing the two - I do like the simplicity of the new pedestal. You did a nice job maintaining the curve of the hollow form into the lid. Great wood combination and a really nice finish!

Hope your week is going well! Keep up the good work!

You should be very proud of this effort. The form and balance of the components is wonderful.
Thank you for sharing.

Very nice work Bernie. I agree that this one flows a bit better than your first one. Love the wood combo too.

Beautiful work, Bernie. The proportions work nicely - and a I particulary like the finial and the way you tied the body into the base:D.

Great looking box Bernie, LOML doesn't like finials but what does she know.

Bernie, Another fine job, the woods go together well, asthe cherry darkens it might lose some of its contrast but that is O.K.

Although I liked your first one this is a much improved version. The piece just seems to flow better. Love the way you have attached the form to the base. If I can make a further suggestion you might want to skinny the finial down a bit more. Heigth looks pretty good though. Great job Bernie...Bill...

Bernie:
Great job on both, but I do like this one even better. The lid really does fit the curve of the piece. Love the wood match. One of these days, maybe, I can try one.;)

All the best.

Thanks for all the comments. I have taken some notes and am going to study some of the suggestions. I agree with Bill that I really think the finial should be slightly shorter and a little more delicate. Thanks for all the suggestions. It is appreciated. Will try to keep improving as that is the name of the game.
