Can veneer be hammered on using Liquid Hide Glue or does it have to be hot hide glue?

Not positive Cody, but the little bit of hammer veneering I've done, it seems that you'd want the hot type so that it would set faster. I could be wrong on that, as I don't know what the set time on your liquid glue is, but the point of hammer veneering is to press the veneer to the substrate, as the glues sets just enough to hold, correct?

I thought as much but hoped to get lucky and have someone tell me it would work. Thanks for answering. I was beginning to think I wouldn't get any replies.

Cody, I have a veneering book at home and if I can remember, I'll read up on the section on hammer veneering and post back. I have a fair amount of experience veneering but not with hammer veneering.

Hot hide glue gells properly to hold the veneer down.Liquid has thiourea(sp?) in it to keep it liquid. The whole trick in hammer veneering is to use the gelling feature to advantage.

You will need to practice to gain skill before trying this on a real project.
