Just finishing trimming out my home. The trim is a mixture of poplar, FJ pine, and MDF. I'm now ready to start fililng all the gaps and nail holes, but I'm curious about one point.

I was going to use Crawford's Painters Putty to smooth out scarf joints and fill nail holes. Bondo on tha larger gaps where something just wouldn't fit right (luckily there are only a couple of these). And then of course painters caulk for the copes, miters, and wall/trim joints.

I was planning on doing all the putty and Bondo before priming everything, but in looking at many of the labels for the various products, they usually say to prime first. Is that how you guys do it?

It has been my experience that you will have to go back and put another coat of primer/sealer over the putty/bondo if you prime first. Sort of like when you paint the walls and have to patch an area. If you don't prime the whole wall the patch will show through the paint. I wouldn't prime first. My $0.02.
