I have heard that furniture manufactured for a couple of years after Lincoln's assassination (1865) was painted black as a sign of national mourning. I have not been able to validate this, yet. Can anyone point me at the correct research area to pursue this? I have just sent same request to Thomas Moser Co. in Maine and several furniture organizations/museums in Grand Rapids.
Help
Thanking you all, in advance
Ernie

Donnie,
Thank so much for the contact.
I have sent Chris and email and have my fingers crossed.
We have a small, low, armless rocker alleged to be from that period. It is entirely painted black and appears to be original. I need to find out what I can do to repair some of the black paint.
Thank you again,
Ernie
