One of the pieces of veneer I got has a lot of veneer tape which has been on it for a long time. The wood under the tape is lighter than the wood around it. I tried sanding it out but I go through it before I get rid of the lines. I contacted Joe Woodworker and he had no answer for me. If I can't darken the light area, what can I use to lighten the surrounding area?

Could you leave it out in the direct sun for several hours a day? It seems like most of it darkened over time with light and the wood under the tape was kept from it. Of course I could be wrong.

If it is cherry, then cut out a hole in some brown paper the size of the area that is bleached, and center the hole over the bleached area and get it some sunlight and the bleached area should darken some. ( Without the paper, it will all darken ) If it is some other wood, you need to find out what causes it to darken, and give that treatment to the bleached area ( open to air, sunlight )

You can certainly try setting the wood in the sun, but I doubt the wood color will ever match the rest of the piece. I think you would be better off replacing it with a similar colored piece of veneer.

Here's the dilemma, it's 10 sheets of burl oak. Here's a pic of my problem.

I'm trying the sun trick on a smaller piece right now. I think it'll work over time. especially when it gets hot here. It's only in the 90's right now so it's still cool here.
