well, when i mean cheap, i mean not much over 100$ i might be able to split the cost with my stepdad, since all we have right now is a cheap 20 year old $15 yardsale craftsman thingy.

Chris, Ive never heard of a 2000 RPM grinder...most are 1725 and 3250.... the one closer to 1725 will work just fine

Curtis - if you can wait for this to go on sale - it is the grinder that a lot of folks have and like. http://www.woodcraft.com/product.aspx?ProductID=144290&FamilyID=4605

The most common inexpensive grinder I see often is the woodcraft one Steve posted. It comes with decent white AlOx wheels and has lots of good reviews. I personally use a Delta 8" variable speed I got for $90 at Rockler on sale, and it works fine. The white wheel it comes with is quite effective, though I added a finer grit white wheel as well.

The Woodcraft slow-speed grinder was just on sale ... and Saturday it would have been an extra discount on top of that. Keep an eye out for a sale there.

I also have the 8" Delta VS, but I do not recommend it. I had a huge amount of trouble with wobble (literally 3/8" side-to-side wobble). It took a Oneway balancing kit and replacement of the spindle nuts (and washers) to make it useable. I have heard of a lot of others with the same issues.

Curtis,

A friend of mine told me about Craiglist as a place for people to post used tools for sale in local areas. Keep an eye on lancaster.craigslist.org and you may find what you are looking for. For anyone else, it has localized sites all over the US and a lot of interesting options.
