Wow! Where did February go?! We've experienced some days of nice spring-like temps here and this morning it's 22º F and supposed to be near 70º F by the end of the week. I guess it's about time to start looking for firewood once again.

I finished up the Walnut Kitchen table project and delivered it to it's owner last week. You can see it here in the projects section. (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=105653) The new owner was "more" than pleased with the end results and I was just glad to have it done to exceed their expectations.

We got out 1st NetFlix movie last week and we all seem to like this deal of NetFlix well enough and the LOML/CFO decided that $9 a month for 4-6 movies a month was a great deal cheaper than buying or renting them at the local movie rental store. The really cool thing is that you really never know which movie they are going to ship...so it will be a "surprise". The family like that.!!!

Worked at the day job on Friday / Saturday and played bass at church on Sunday and watched a movie with the family last night.

Will be spending some time with the family today and tonight to try and make up for lost time while I was working many wild hours and long weeks at the day job.

So what did YOU do this weekend?

Best of weeks to you all.

Well I was up at our tracking station Wednesday through Saturday afternoon with a sick diesel engine, however I made it back to Toronto on time to meet Diann at the Canadaian Home Workshop Show.

Spent a while Looking at a Minimax saw/shaper combo, discussing options, sizes etc, sat in on a seminar and generally just looked around.

I guess I'm immune to the wonders of the new miracle chamois, or the 129 router bits for $129 routine. Is it me or are these shows not worth going to anymore?

Sunday my friend John came over and made two raised panel doors for his cabinet that he's been building for two years, using my shop. It was the first time he's used a shaper, so he got try it all, coping and sticking the rails and stiles, and raising and back cutting the panels with the help of a feeder.

Watched an old Clint Eastwood movie Sunday night.

That's it............Rod.

Friday I took the mirrors I've been working on to get get the actual mirror cut, then came home and installed the backs and got the one hung. The other one is stored for safe keeping until the bathroom it goes in is ready. I also got an outdoor volume control installed on the speakers we have on our deck by the hot tub. Before we could control it with home theater recevier, but our new setup makes that more difficult and we are adding built-in speakers in my office and a couple other locations so we need independent volume controls. Friday night we went to look at flooring options for the bathroom. Saturday morning I got a few hours in the shop and got all the gearbox components for my Parks planer cleaned up, which was a messy job due to about 70 years of grease/sawdust mix. Diesel fuel worked pretty good and they are in amazingly good condition. Then LOML and I went up to Detroit to spend the night at the new Greektown Casino Hotel, get dinner and waste a little money on games. On the way though we stopped to look at a pretty rough Powermatic Model 30 sander that matches the one I already have. But this one I was able to get cheap enough that it was worth buying to get a second table and the cabinet, which I'll use under the Parks. I should be able to make a little back selling the remaining parts. Luckily LOML ended up even so I guess it wasn't too bad for an evening of entertainment.

I rearranged the tools out in the garage.

I almost have room for either my minivan or my new router table (shhh, don't tell Anna I bought one last week)

Saturday I drove to Moscow and bought some cherry lumber for a turned table I'll start working on when the wood has acclimated to my shop.

Sunday, talked with family members and roughted out a 13" walnut bowl. I hope this stuff doesn't crack as the wood is gorgeous.

Man, the weekend was a blurr!! Didn't do too much. Slept late Sat, then played on the computer. About 10:30 started picking up all the cut trunk pieces I left on the yard last Sunday from cutting the Pear tree down. Got it stacked to dry out. Anyone ever burn Pear in the fireplace? Fiddled around in the shop Sat. afternoon. Then we went out to eat. Possibly the most tender steak I have ever had! Good flavor also. Stopped by Circuit City looking for slotwall hangers. Nothing. Picked up the PVC parts to fix the sprinkler pump.
Sunday, messed around on the computer some more, cut some wood up for the fireplace since it was pretty chilly. Went to exchange a couple of the PVC parts to do it a little differently than I originally planned. Started working on it, messed up the threads on one part, so did what I could, and saved the rest. Piddled around the shop some more.
So a lot of nothing for me, but it was a beautiful weekend, even though it was cold yesterday am, and windy on Sat.
Have a great week all! Jim.

3 day weekend - I worked Mardi Gras so I got Friday off.

I HATE doing the first lawn mow of the year. Most of Friday was cleaning up the back part. I WISH my cousin would cut his more than once a year. I am about to call the city on him, I have asked him about keeping it mowed.

Saturday - Bought a hind quarter and 10lbs of rib eyes at the slaughter house. Then went and bought a Foodsaver vacuum system and spent the rest of the day packing meat up into the freezer - except for a crawfish break for dinner (26 years anni Thursday)

Sunday - Helped the LOML keep the kitchen clean and dishes washed while she baked bread.

Amazing feat, I cleaned the shop top to bottom, wood bins, Glen inventoried his ammo, a pretty productive weekend even if I do say so myself. One of those where you have to go back to work to rest (not really!) Now we can find things in the shop and actually work out there!

Best to all,

Jude

no shop time this weekend - well, not for WW, at least. I installed a bluetooth and ipod interface in the wife's truck, so I had to spend some time changing some connectors and figuring out how to get her truck disassembled w/out breaking anything.

This weekend was a though one. Friday I picked up a load of ash. Saturday my wife went to a cooking show so I took care of the baby for several hours. The snow kicked up around 10AM and did not quit until the afternoon. We got a total of around 5 inches. Went to church sat night. Sunday I headed to the farm to meet doc to get some bulls tested and some heifers checked for a sale up coming. The rest of the day I just hung out with the family. Last night the little one did not want to sleep so the wife and I were up all night. Needless to say I feel like a big bag of poop. Everyone have a good week and be careful.

I finally got to work on my wife's tack box. I made some pretty decent progress too, until I figured out that I don't really know how I am going to make the doors for it.

Horsie stuff on Saturday and not a whole lot on Sunday...I wasn't feeling well. Nastia, the older, was also diagnosed with Mono on Friday, so that put a damper on the weekend because she's not allowed to ride for three weeks now.

Jacob, start a thread in the Design Forum, showing us what you have so far...SMC folks are pretty good at providing "door" solutions!

I was in Phoenix, Arizona Thursday through Monday at dog shows. I must say that the weather was perfect with clear sky and temperatures in the 70s & 80s. There was a cool breeze blowing most of the time. Our boy, 10 month old basset hound, was Best of Winners for a four point major on Saturday which made the trip worthwhile.

Guy, congratulations on your major. I didn't realize that you showed your dogs.

What should have been a great weekend, turned sour, did get saturday during the day in the shop, and after that it went downhill fast.

Sat night father in law ended up in the hospital with a stroke from a blood clot and it took to monday to get him stabilized, don't look good as the doctor thinks its gonna happen again, so they have have him on blood thinners and who knows what.

We're all pretty frazzled right now, never seems to be a easy way to deal with all this, plus where the wife works will probably close very soon, doesn't make it any easier for her....feeling kinda helpless right now.

Just getting the hang of posting pictures "quickly". I am working on the trim of our own house. Actually I am trying to get the house completed by mid May. So I will try to keep a photo record of the process. This last week and week end I started on the stairs. I am trying to get by using what I have so the wood choice is not always the best for the application but it what I got. I started by removing drywall to put up wainscot. I could of put up nailers and run it but choose not to. Then I ran some blued 6 inch pine. Now I am building the post basses. These I am making from 2x12 Western Red Cedar I had left over from a deck job. They were badly warped in rough shape so I planed them down to 1 1/4" and cut them and glued them up.There are 7 of them. All cut to fit around the framing. It was an after thought, I guess I like doing things the hard way. Going to shellac them today and will follow up with those pics tonight.
