I have done a bunch of searching here to try to find some recommended sources for sharpening these knives but am coming up empty. I thought for sure there would be dozens of threads but my search criteria, sharpening service, planer knife sharpening, and so on arent turning up much.

Where do all of you that dont have a good local source send your knives and what is a rough cost? I have 3 sets that need sharpening and one knife will have to be replaced. Prior to me getting them one knife has a big spot broken out of it near the edge.

Thought I may be able to cut them down into a set of jointer knives but not sure they are the same size as my jointer.

Most decent sized cities have a commercial saw and tool shop that does sharpening. I use Eastside Saw in Bellevue, WA for my jointer and planer knife sharpening. http://www.eastsidesaw.com/default.html You can also ship your knives to them; they have a pretty quick turn around time. They charge by the inch for knife sharpening; I don't remember what the charge is but it's not unreasonable. They also stock or make pretty much any jointer or planer knife you might neend. I doubt if your planer knives can be cut down to fit your jointer; most jointer knives are much narrower than planer knives.

I sharpen my own knives in a Ho-Made jig with cup wheel in the drillpress. It's Lo Tech but has served me well for 20 years.

You don't indicate where you are located, but any reputable sharpener will offer rapid turn-around by prepaid UPS,etc. http://www.ballewsaw.com Springfield, MO has been in the Biz a long time. Phone 1 417-865-7511 for their current quote for 20" planer knives.

I use Dynamic Saw (Dynamicsaw.com) in Buffalo NY, even though I'm in central NC.
