I just completed this clock for our school's auction. Based on Chris Becksvoort's clock in Fine Woodworking issue #157. Finish is red mahogany stain, pore filler, several coats of shellac and a light wax. A simple quartz movement keeps things, well, simple.
I used this finish on a picture frame and liked how the grain and character of the wood came through, thought it would make this clock interesting.
Thanks for looking !

Carl,
That is a wonderful piece. May I ask how much it went for?

Beautiful clock - very elegant. Good luck with the auction (although, it looks like you won't need it). :)

Carl,
I would certainly have bid on that!
Really rich looking in mahogany.
Well Done,

Carl, nice job. I remember that article. It looks like you went with a custom dial face as he suggested. Is that correct? Again, really nice.

I found a downloadable clockface on the net, added my name and adjusted the size with MSPaint, and printed out and glued to a backerboard. A single coat of shellac gives the paper an instant aged look. I guess it's about as custom as any other!

Really lovely, Carl. The mahogany worked nicely for you on this design.

Great looking clock. I love Shaker stuff, and try to go to Pleasant Hill about once a year.

Carl, I built the same one some years ago. I made mine out of walnut. They are a great clock!
