I just need to satisfy my curiosity. I was thinking of how I could upgrade my Nova 1624 to variable speed. What I know about motors and variable speed is you need a 3 phase motor and a VFD powered by 240v, or you could use a DC motor. However it occured to me that the JET 1642 comes in two flavors, both variable speed, one powered by 120v supply and the other 240v. I didnt know you could get variable speed with 120v. Am I missing something, now that I think about it I don't recall seeing any type of tool with an AC motor powered by 120v capable of VS. Was wondering if my NOVA could be upgraded in a similar manner.

Thanks in advance

VFD's come in many flavors to include 110v single phase input, 220v 3phase output.

On the other hand, I'm just guessing, but trying to retrofit your Nova is going to be difficult at best.

I agree with you Mike, probably expensive also. Upgrading is not something I plan on doing but I was curious about the VFD. I learned something new today.

Thanks
