Is it worth $1300? I have no experience with the shelix head, which seems to get pretty good reviews here. Still, the unit seems a little high to me. I'll be upgrading from a Dewalt lunchbox screamer, trying to reduce noise in my basement shop.

Thanks.

Hi Robert, I would expect to pay about 50% of new cost.

That would probably put you in the $1,000 dollar range, although being Canadian I don't have a good feel for prices in your area.

Regards, Rod.

I thought $1000-$1100 sounded more what I would expect to pay. Maybe he gave himself some room to come down and still get what he wants.

On the other hand, I see a Jet 15" with helix cutter runs about $2600 (with shipping), so he's not far from half price on that.

It depends on how bad you want it. 50% rule does not always apply.

Well, I have that planer and paid $1000 with freight for it about 6 years ago. I'm kind of a 1/2 price guy, so call the planer $500, but the byrd head probably adds another $700-$800 or so, or at 1/2 price (no clue if that's fair or not) makes it $850-$900. If it was in driving distance for me, I would give him $1000, and then try to sell mine. I'd really like to have the Byrd head.
