I have heard these terms lately, blog and blogger. They are related to the internet in some way. What do they mean? Thanks. Pete

"Blog" is short for "Weblog." Basically, it's an online journal about anything or everything that someone posts for whatever reason.

Blog's are pretty interesting. I occasionally follow a couple. I don't have the time to blog and I' amazed at how some people can find time.

Thanks for the replies. Rich, I visited all of the links that you posted. I guess I just don't get it. It seems to be a kind of forum just like SawMill Creek, but the people post many more words than here. I have just heard of blogs and bloggers in the last month, and even today the Chicago Tribune newspaper had an article on how big these things are getting. Hmmm... I must be getting old. I don't understand why people make them or visit them. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Pete,

It's the same phenomenon driving "Reality TV". Blogs are informal, and provide a glimpse into the real lives of other people. It is more or less being able to read people's journals, of which they have made public.

Keeping in mind, of course, that the authors may say as much or as little as they wish, and may or may not tell the truth, and what is the truth may not be the full truth, et cetera ad nauseum.

Pete:

I visit them only because I share an interest. For instance, Mark Cuban's blog the blogmaverick.com is interesting because he is a character, he loves basketball, and he is a techie. I share those same qualities ( or faults :D ) and I find it an interesting read.

Leo Laporte blog is really a news of the day dump but he is zany and the ultimate techy. The guy is really funny. He used to be host of the Screensavers on Tech TV.

I really haven't found any woodworking Blogs and I doubt it would replace SMC  .

They really are no big deal but some of them are pretty unique and off the wall. They have grown in popularity because google purchased one of the sites a few months back. Other than that they make interesting reads when your bored from your usual surfing the web.

Cheers
