I came across this article on USA Today. It seems that you can't even have a tree in your yard without it getting swiped.

Hi Rich. That was an interesting story :)

In the Dallas area, tree snatching has been going on for sometime. Last year on the local TV news it was reported that people would wake up in the morning to find a small tree and/or other shrubbery removed during the night.

When we bought our 5 acres 3 years ago, it was just a hay field. We planted several Red Oaks and a small live Christmas tree our daughter gave us. One day we drove up to water the newly planted trees, and discovered that the Christmas tree had been removed. It appeared that one or more people just grabbed it and pulled it up and away. It probably got planted in somebodies yard; I hope it died

So the real predicament in my mind is that if you inadvertently incorporate "hot" wood into one of your projects and find out after the fact, are you then morally to return the whole project to the orginal owner? :p
