I give up, I was reading a book by Speilman on routers. He pictured something called Rig-A-Mortise. Basicly it was a router base with two dowell like projections on either side. You simply turned the router base to allow the projections to rest on the work piece and then cut your mortise. It made a lot of sense. Never-the-less, I do not seem to be able to find the product or even know if it is still being made. The book was copywrited in 1993.

Have any of you guys heard or seen this thing?

I don't know if it is called rig-a-mortise or not, but this router base is offered at Rockler or Hartville. I can't remember which, but I did see it at one of these sites. I tend to think that it was at Hartville.

Ed. I don't know about buying this device but, it sounds exactly like one of the router jigs from the "Router Magic" book by Bill Hylton. It's quite easy to make, and actually works quite well. I made mine from a piece of Lexan. It's called a "Center Finder Baseplate" in the book. Good luck
