I have some trees that smell like cedar, but do not have the red heartwood like eastern red cedar. I think these may be Atlantic White Cedar. They were downed trees in a boggy area near a creek on my property in South Carolina. Anyone turned this before? Any special aspects besides the nice smell? This wood may be a bit too punky, but I will turn some to see how it comes out.

Rick, white cedar turns really nice but cracks really easy...soon as you done turning and sanding get a finish on it quick ( maybe a oil finish of some sort )

Great turning but cracks a lot. DNA seems to keep it down somewhat.

Good for split fencing IMO.

It turned really nice. A couple of shots with a mineral oil finish. 7" diameter.

Good looking bowl Rick! Bet it is light as a feather! Really like the growth ring pattern in the second photo! Nice work!

If it smells like cedar . . . run away, run away! Nah, that's just cuz I'm allergic to it. You did a beautiful job on your bowl, Rick, nice work! Jude
