Does anyone know of a mechanical lift for tambour doors? I have to build a couple of wall mounted tv cabinets and the customer has requested tambour doors. Both of the tv's will be mounted above 8' so I'm wondering if I can get some type of lift, like a mini-garage door opener, that would work to open and close the doors.

Ah, so you want a controller for the doors which can be used from a distance? It is more than a lift, it is a remote-controlled one. You might look at www.smarthome.com They have lots of remote-controlled stuff -- for instance remote-controlled systems for controlling curtains.

Thanks guys. David, that looks like what I was thinking of. I see the company is based in Australia. I'm sure it'll be costly but this customer has never balked at cost before.

Auton and Lift-Tech make products which move panels that conceal displays. They don't have a tambot door, but they'd be less hassle to deal with than an Ozzie outfit. http://www.auton.com/products/traks/ and http://www.televisionlifts.com/lt325concealedpanellift.html

Thanks Jamie. The Aussie outfit has just what I want but doesn't ship to the U.S. I can't find a manufacturer state side that does this. How, in a country that offers a choice of over 3, 435, 897 toilet seats, can there not be someone that provides this product? I emailed Lift-tech and explained my scenario. I'm thinking one of their lifts might work but I'm waiting for some feed back from them to see.

"The Aussie...doesn't ship to the U.S..."

That's too bad. I'm sorry to hear that because I had this one stashed away "just in case". I don't recall ever seeing any other sources. Maybe it's time for some serious surfing "down under"?
